Yuletide Letter 2014
Oct. 26th, 2014 02:56 amFandom 1: Othello
Characters: Iago
In a lot of productions for Othello, Iago gets portrayed as an almost motiveless villain, his only reasons given being a pair of throwaway lines.
Let's have some motivation, some backstory (some sympathy even?) for this epitome of jerkdom. Maybe Iago truly feels justified in what he does. Maybe he's really just trolling. Feel free to add any other characters you'd like. Or AUs. Or whatever.
Fandom 2: Deadwood
Characters: Al Swearengen
Directly stolen from last year:
I do enjoy some Swearengen. Write me some Al!
In fairness to people who like to have something to work off, I'd enjoy reading something set shortly after the series.
For example, Al put together a small army to fight Hearst, and now Hearst is bailing out. What happens next? Monologue, town meeting or harassing people from his balcony, how does Al react to the events at the end of Season 3?
Any other characters you feel like throwing in are also fine.
Fandom 3: Maleficent
Characters: Maleficent (Maleficent) Diaval (Maleficent)
I'm sorry, this is the smut request. I FINALLY watched it and I ship Maleficent/Diaval hard. They're essentially alone together for sixteen years. Maleficent has just gotten over a bad breakup. She has a pet/slave/boon companion bird!man. There's subservience and shape-changing ripe for exploiting (who says Diaval has to be a dude all the time? or that his human form is fixed?) . Have fun!
If you're not up for smut here, some other examination of their relationship would be great. The factors shaping their relationship are the same, how do YOU think it plays out when they're not babysitting at range?
General stuff: (Unchanged from last year)
So! Let us start with the "Dos":
- Do write something you want to write. If my prompts don't work for you, I really quite like all of these in and of themselves so you can drop the prompt without feeling guilty.
- Do stick as close as you can to established character stuff.
- Do feel free when it comes to rating/maturity/etc. I stop at viscerally graphic violence, but I don't think any of my prompts really call for it so we should be fine there!
"Don'ts:"
- I'm not a really slashy person. I like that it is a thing, but it is not my thing.
- Graphic violence. Not that it should come up, but if it does, my biggest squick of all is dismemberment so none of that, please and thank you!
And that's it, really. Sorry if it's a bit sparse; I have had a mad few months. I look forward to seeing your efforts at translating my madness!
Thanks muchly :)
Doctor Who AUs!
Mar. 12th, 2014 07:48 pmWhat if the Doctor was a woman?
What if Doctor Who was an American show?
Enjoy!
Yuletide Letter
Oct. 14th, 2013 08:20 pmFirst, allow me to recap my requests:
Fandom 1: Kerbal Space Program
Characters: Jebediah Kerman, Bob Kerman, Bill Kerman, The Player
What is the Player? How do they manifest to our brave heroes? Are they an in-world evil/incompetent overlord, or just a mysterious force driving the will of the Kerman brothers?
Alternatively, how do the Kermans feel about their adventures and potentially untimely demises? Where do the little fellows come from? What is their off-screen life like?
I'd really enjoy pretty much anything KSP. If you're not familiar with it (in fact even if you're here for another prompt) check out the free demo here:
https://kerbalspaceprogram.com/
Fandom 2: The Third Man
Characters: Harry Lime
I'm hoping to get some prequel adventure here. If you've got the DVD, you should be able to listen to the "Ticket to Tangiers" radioplay which is on there. Something like that, perhaps. Other than Lime himself, I don't mind who goes in there. The world of a post-war (or even wartime) smuggler and trickster is an interesting one which deserves some looking into. Perhaps examining Lime's motivations, how he met Holly Martins or any of his other associates? That would be cool.
Fandom 3: Love Actually
Characters: David (Hugh Grant) Rufus (Rowan Atkinson)
As a politics afficionado, this movie left me wondering one important thing: How is Hugh Grant's David Prime Minister? From all signs he's a bit of a wet blanket. Coupled with the idea that Rowan Atkinson's Rufus character is actually some kind of Christmas angel (it was an early concept dropped from the script), I've always enjoyed the notion that there's a more fantastical and maybe sinister side to the world of Love Actually than there appears. Like, maybe the American women Colin meets in Milwaukee are witches? Maybe Sarah's mentally ill brother is possessed? Who knows. Help me out here?
I realise that I am strange! Sorry if you were expecting a request anything at all like the actual film...
Fandom 4: Deadwood
Characters: Al Swearengen
This was my panic!prompt as I didn't realise I got four requests! Thus, it's a bit less fleshed out (more freedom?) than the others.
I really do enjoy Al though.

- Graphic violence. Not that it should come up, but if it does, my biggest squick is dismemberment.
And that's it, really. Sorry if it's a bit sparse; this is my first proper Yuletide so I'm not really sure what I'm doing. I look forward to seeing your efforts at translating my madness!
Thanks muchly :)
Yuletide Nominations
Sep. 26th, 2012 09:14 pmYuletide is coming up, I've meant to do it for years and I've just discovered three important things:
1. I already have an Ao3 account for some reason (maybe I was going to Yuletide some other year?)
2. Some people request smut... I can deal with this.
3. Someone nominated HAMLET. I am on that like stink on a fish.
But nominations...
Kerbal Space Program is in, because I want to see what someone does with it.
What else though? I will be pondering & adding here. Something small for the brain to do at work is going to be nice!

[Jul '11] Happenings in Fumare
Jul. 25th, 2011 10:04 amIn national affairs:
The Welleston Sun reports: Smashing News! Dastardly Ramians Sue for Peace!
News was spread across the nation today by telegraph that the Ramians have had jack of the fighting in the Colonies!
At nine of the morning this Tuesday last, dignitaries from Ramia, our own fine nation and the exotic Thedory Confederacy gathered together near the front in the Colonies. The significant moment occurred at a temporary armistice hall built with native Colonial assistance, under the objective eye of the Thedorian ambassadors to Ramia & Fumare. Our own ambassador to Ramia, Professor Countess Ignatia Goodwin, took up the quill on behalf of Fumare’s noble people, while one Lieutenant-Colonel Vranck Boors stood in for the former Ramian Ambassador Tarkhus Vaal (It is understood by the Sun that Mr Vaal has been recalled to Ramia and is to be replaced by Boors).
The terms of the agreement were simple: a cease-fire, with all hostile actions to cease at noon that day; exchange of prisoners of war to be conducted on equal and gentlemanly terms; territorial claims to be settled in a similar fashion at a later date.
Military sources in Welleston informed the Sun that they were quite pleased with the terms, since in the previous week the Fumarean war effort had captured some highly-strategic areas of the colonial landscape.
A handful of excitable young chaps from the third airborne received a reprimand for breaking the armistice that afternoon. They were quite reasonably pardoned from court-martial on account of their telegraph operator having been on a tea-break at the time of the armistice’s announcement.
In the Faculty social scene:
Rumour has been once again proven a fickle and unreliable source: Cutler & Red, Fumare’s most successful fashion brand since Gigi Fleet is not going to be breaking up as reputed!
After wowing the fashion scene with their choice of host and the dramatic, fireworks-enhanced finale of their Autumn Fashion Collection, gossip had it that there had been some kind of falling-out between the pair. Talk of a hiatus was circling like sharks. Cutler’s personal assistant fell ill (a sure sign of trouble known to most members of the Faculty scene).
However, Cutler & Red have just announced that they will be beginning work on their catalogue for AF 1010 and it will be better than anything seen before.
Among the Underclass:
Mason “Fingers” Russ has disappeared and the Riverstown-Appleton Ferry is no longer the place to go if you’re a dirty crook. Pete “Carnivorous Pigs” Smythe, the big man of Westlake, has put out word that anyone who can find Russ will be taken well care of.
Lesser Colton is the place to be if you want work and don't mind getting your hands dirty.
The Stonesdale Seven are still behind bars for their part in the rail-workers' riot three weeks back, even though the Marshals never filled in the paperwork properly. Word on the street is, it's orders from higher-up.
